PRESENTERS BIO: Alberto J. Bernal-León is Head of Macroeconomic Strategy Emerging Markets Research at Bulltick, LLC. Previously, he was MD of Emerging Fixed Income Research at Bear Stearns Inc. in New York City. He was responsible for covering the Latin America region. Previously, he was Head of Latin America Economic Research at IDEAglobal Inc. in New York City. Mr. Bernal is a frequent contributor to major newswires, local press in Latin America, prominent world newspapers, and is a frequent contributor on financial television networks. He has also been invited to participate as a panelist on a series of official, economic, and academic events in the US and around Latin America. Bernal was named the most accurate economist of Colombia in 2006 by Revista Dinero, one of the top five future economists of Colombia by the newspaper La República, one of the future top 40 executives under 40 years by the Latin American publication Revista Poder, and one of 100 Latin America leaders under 40 by the Revista Gerente. He is a research scholar for Columbia University's Chazen Institute and holds a Master's Degree in Macroeconomics from Germany's Kiel Institute of World Economics. He received his Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of New Orleans.
Kathryn Rooney Vera is the Senior Emerging Markets Macroeconomic Strategist at Bulltick Capital Markets where she is responsible for the analysis of Latin American sovereign economies with major emphasis on Brazil, Peru, Chile, Panama, Venezuela, and the Central America/Caribbean region. Before Bulltick, she served as an economist at Bear Stearns in Emerging Markets Fixed Income Research, where she covered the Central American and Caribbean region. Prior to such appointment, Ms. Rooney Vera worked on the buy-side as a sovereign analyst at MetLife Investments where she conducted in-depth economic analyses, working closely with the portfolio manager on asset selection and portfolio allocation. She is a frequent contributor to major newswires, local press in Latin America, and often appears on financial news networks (CNN en español, Bloomberg Television). Ms. Rooney Vera holds a Masters of Business Degree in Economics and Finance from New York University's Stern School of Business. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Spanish literature from Rutgers University in New Jersey, having also studied at the University of Valencia in Spain.
